The  Southern Post Story

On 11 September 1928, the first full-fledged registered newspaper appeared in Bredasdorp, Die Bredasdorp & Napier Nuus / The Bredasdorp & Napier News, initially for Bredasdorp, Napier and Swellendam to distribute municipal, divisional council and state notices.  The first owner was Mr. Liebenberg.  Since then the newspaper has changed owner and name, and in 1996 the current owners take over and at the same time acquire Southern Post, the weekly newspaper in Napier. The two are merged as SUIDERNUUS / SOUTHERN POST and still serve the region, which now also includes towns such as Waenhuiskrans, Struisbaai, Agulhas, Elim, Klipdale, Protem, Wolvengat, Ouplaas and Riviersonderend, as a bilingual newspaper.  All printing is done locally at Suiderpers (Southern Cape Printing).
